In a move to strengthen and modernise the Railway infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, the Union Cabinet has approved the Kharsia–Parmalkasa railway project with a massive budget allocation of ₹8,741 Crore. This transformative initiative is set to revolutionise Rail connectivity across the state, ensuring faster, safer and more efficient transport for passengers and goods alike.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Chhattisgarh has witnessed a historic 22x increase in Railway budget allocations — from a mere ₹300 Crore under previous governments to over ₹8,000 Crore. This exponential growth in investment marks a decisive step towards building a Viksit Bharat.

This ambitious project will not only improve regional connectivity, particularly benefiting remote villages, but also facilitate high-speed rail traffic. It will open up new markets for local products, ensuring faster access to national distribution networks.
*National-Level Infrastructure Push in Chhattisgarh:
Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw lauded the project as a monumental leap for Chhattisgarh, stating: "This is not just about tracks and trains—this is about connecting people, creating jobs, boosting trade and empowering Chhattisgarh to reach its true potential."

• Line Doubling, Tripling, and Quadrupling – Spanning 1,125 km
• Station Redevelopment - 32 Stations under transformation
With total investments crossing ₹47,000 Crore in the state’s Railway sector, Chhattisgarh is now outpacing international benchmarks, surpassing even the Railway network of Dubai, UAE.
Other significant projects include the third line between Rajnandgaon and Nagpur, the fourth line between Jharsuguda and Bilaspur. The broad gauge conversion of the Raipur Central -Dhamtari-Abhanpur-Rajim route. Sufficient funds have been allocated for forth rail line between Rajnandgaon and Dongargarh, as well as for the Jagdalpur-Koraput doubling, new lines from Dharamjaygarh to Korba and doubling from Anuppur to Ambikapur.
Further, acknowledging the significant allocation and Railway progress, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Dev Sahay extended heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, stating: "From better village access to world-class stations, every district is feeling the change and connected.”
The Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, expressed happiness over the approval of this project for the state of Chhattisgarh and, on behalf of all the residents of Chhattisgarh, extended his gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Central Government.
The Kharsia–Naya Raipur-Parmalkasa Railway project and associated developments mark a new dawn for Chhattisgarh’s Railway landscape. This line will provide direct connectivity to new areas such as Baloda Bazar. This will cater existing industries in the region and create possibilities for setting up of new industrial units including cement plants. This will be essential route for transportation of commodities such as agriculture products, fertilizer, coal, iron ore, steel, cement, limestone etc.
With sustainability, employment, connectivity, and innovation at its core, the state is on track to become a model for modern rail development in India. Railways in Chhattisgarh are reaching new heights. This is not just infrastructure—it’s the spirit of Viksit Bharat in motion.
